“Kinderchance” is a private German non-profit project in San Juan Sacatepéquez (Guatemala). It was founded in 2000 by Brunhilde de Grajeda and Hermann Oswald. Some 500 students are being taught here. The youngest are in childcare, the eldest are seniors in high school.
What is special about this school? Families that can afford to pay some tuition can apply for partial scholarships. The tuition of about half of the students is funded by sponsors in Germany and the US. This way, each child that wants to learn can receive a good education. We are always in need of sponsors in order to support more children. You can find more information about sponsoring a student by clicking here (sponsoring).
Evelyn Karina Velásquez García (child care, kindergarten and elementary school) and Olga Marina Saravia Protillo (middle and high school) are serving as the school’s principals. You can look at our amazing team of teachers here (team). The school is also being supported by volunteers from Germany who come here either on a regular basis or for a few weeks or even a whole year to help teach English, train teachers or build and repair structures on the premises.
The school system in Guatemala is different from the US school system. Click here (school system) to learn more.
